Community Scorecard Training & Information Sessions
Learn how to assess your community’s wildfire readiness and track progress over time.
The FireSmart Alberta Community Scorecard has launched.
The Community Scorecard is a provincially recognized wildfire mitigation and preparedness self-assessment tool designed to help Alberta communities better understand their current level of wildfire readiness, identify priorities for improvement, and track progress over time.
FireSmart Alberta is offering virtual information sessions and user training to support communities at different stages—whether you are learning about the Scorecard for the first time or preparing to complete your community’s assessment using the secure online platform.

Why the Community Scorecard Was Developed
Communities across Alberta are at different stages of wildfire preparedness. While many are taking important steps to reduce risk, it can be difficult to understand how local actions align with FireSmart best practices or where to focus next.
The Scorecard provides a consistent, province-wide framework for understanding wildfire preparedness, practical guidance aligned with FireSmart best practices, and a way to track progress over time rather than relying on one-time assessments.
What is the Community Scorecard?
A structured self-assessment that aligns with the full community wildfire risk management cycle:
Assess Risk > Plan > Implement > Evaluate
Understand
See how existing activities align with provincially recognized FireSmart best practices.
Identify
Discover strengths, gaps, and priority areas for improvement in your community.
Plan
Set realistic, achievable goals based on your community’s current capacity.
Track
Monitor wildfire resilience progress year over year with consistent metrics.
How the Scorecard is Used
Communities use the FireSmart Alberta Community Scorecard to support internal planning and priority setting, demonstrate progress and maturity over time, inform local decision-making related to wildfire resilience, and support program eligibility, recognition, and informed risk management conversations.
The Scorecard is designed to be practical, flexible, and appropriate for communities of different sizes, capacities, and governance structures. It is completed through a secure online platform and produces a summary report that communities can use internally and externally.
