Program Hub
FireSmart Alberta offers programs that help communities and residents take meaningful action to reduce wildfire risk. Whether you’re working at the neighbourhood level or looking to assess your own property, there’s a program designed for you.
FireSmart Community Scorecard
A provincially recognized framework for measuring community wildfire readiness.
The Community Scorecard is a wildfire mitigation and preparedness self-assessment tool designed to help Alberta communities better understand their current level of wildfire readiness, identify priorities for improvement, and track progress over time.
FireSmart Alberta offers virtual information sessions and user training to support communities at different stages — whether you are learning about the Scorecard for the first time or preparing to complete your community’s assessment using the secure online platform.
Why the Community Scorecard was developed
Communities across Alberta are at different stages of wildfire preparedness. While many are taking important steps to reduce risk, it can be difficult to understand how local actions align with FireSmart best practices or where to focus next.
The Scorecard provides a consistent, province-wide framework for understanding wildfire preparedness, practical guidance aligned with FireSmart best practices, and a way to track progress over time rather than relying on one-time assessments.
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day
A national day of action for wildfire resilience.
Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is a national campaign observed on the first Saturday in May. It encourages residents across the country to take action to increase their home, neighbourhood, and community’s resilience to wildfire. Visit the FireSmart Canada website to learn more about the campaign and how to get involved.

Neighbourhood Recognition Program
FireSmart works best when people work together.
The Neighbourhood Recognition Program recognizes neighbourhoods that collaborate to reduce the risk of wildfire. Through a guided seven-step process, residents form committees, complete hazard assessments, develop action plans, and host community events — all with the support of a trained NRP Specialist.
The program is open to any neighbourhood, community, or Indigenous community looking to take collective action toward wildfire resilience.
Advanced Home Assessment Program
A personalized assessment for your property.
The Advanced Home Assessment Program is a voluntary, property-level assessment for residents who want to understand and reduce their home’s specific vulnerability to wildfire. A formally trained assessor visits your property, reviews key areas within the home ignition zone, and provides a comprehensive report with prioritized recommendations.
This program is the recommended next step after using the FireSmart Begins at Home app or completing the self-assessment scorecard.
